The Runner crew films with Salah in San Sebastian (Spanish Basque country) for the annual Behobia-San Sebastian 20km race
**SEPTEMBER 2011**
This month, the film was awarded a grant from the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture.
We're also very pleased to announce more co-Producers joining team Runner. Ireland's award-winning Underground Films - who recently released The Pipe - join Norway's national broadcaster NRK as backers of the film.
**JUNE 2011**
We're very happy that the Irish Film Board has been confirmed as a supporter of The Runner. Thanks to everyone there for your committment to the project.
We've also finally snagged the Executive Producer we've been slowly seducing for months. We welcome multi award-winning Producer Mike Chamberlain, from Stampede Films, to the film.
**APRIL/MAY 2011**
Director Saeed Taji Farouky, sound man Brendan Butler and Production Manager Marie-Therese Garvey went to the beautiful Pyrenees village of Font Romeu to film with Salah and his team during their regular high-altitude training.
**FEB 2011**
//the runner returns to the Sahara Marathon//
We welcome Marie-Therese Garvey, Production Manager of The Runner, as the newest member of the team. She returned to the Sahrawi refugee camps in Algeria to take part in this year's Sahara Marathon, the same race our crew filmed in 2010.
**JAN 2011**

Director Saeed Taji Farouky and composer Joe Lewis just returned from another week shooting The Runner in Tolosa, Basque Country.
BAFTA and Emmy award-winning journalist and filmmaker John Pilger joins Ken Loach in supportingThe Runner, calling our feature documentary "an excellent and necessary way of telling the 'forgotten' story of Western Sahara."
**DECEMBER 2010**
The Runner featured in Dubai art magazine Brownbook

This month, the team also attended the second session of the excellent and inspiring StoryDoc documentary development programme, where the film picked up its first broadcast deal(!) and offers from two excellent distributors. Thanks to everyone who has supported the film so far!
**NOVEMBER 2010**
Saeed attends Sheffield Doc/Fest with The Runner where he shows this teaser video. He found a lot of interest in the film, and the team will be following up with those contacts over the next 18 months until the project is complete.
Later in the month, the team prepares to continue filming in Avignon with Salah. Follow us on our blog for stories, musings and images from the shoot.
**OCTOBER 2010**
The Runner's Director Saeed attends the DokLeipzig festival to pitch. Support and interest in the film are overwhelming. The representative of a national film board shows great enthusiasm for supporting the film as a theatrical feature documentary, and there is interest from a European broadcaster, several distributors and two major international film funds.
A creative documentary guru (and long-time supporter of the film) said of Saeed's pitch "I was not the only one who thought that his presentation was the best of the 10 that were there that morning!"
**SEPTEMBER 2010**
The Runner is awarded Best Project at the StoryDoc programme, Corfu. Our prize is an all-expenses paid trip and a guest pitching spot at the excellent DokLeipzig festival at the end of October. Let us know if you'll be at the festival, we'd love to meet you.
The Ameil & Melburn Trust awards The Runner a very generous grant for the film's development. We're extremely grateful to the trust for their generous support, which will be used to fund a development trip to continue filming with Salah in France.
